Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deontay Keon Hestle Jr, 18, (DOB 11/24/2003) and Robbie Shavon Kaigler, 18, (DOB: 11/13/2003), both of Detroit, in connection with opening fire on two Detroit police officers.

On May 21, 2022, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Detroit police officers were in the area of Livernois Avenue and Davison Road in Detroit when they observed a vehicle with the defendants pass them. Defendant Kaigler was driving the car with Defendant Hestle sitting on the rear right side passenger door sill. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, it is alleged that Defendant Hestle produced and fired a handgun at the officers' vehicle. Defendant Kaigler is alleged to have driven the car away from the scene and aided Hestle after he shot at the two officers. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants on May 24, 2022.

Deontay Keon Hestle has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of Fleeing and Eluding, and four counts of Felony Firearm. *

Robbie Shavon Kaigler has been charged with two counts of Fleeing and Eluding and Accessory After the Fact. *

The defendants were arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court. Defendant Hestle was given a $1,000,000 cash bond. Defendant Kaigler was given a $50,000 personal bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 3, 2022, before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones. Please request a photograph of the defendants from the Detroit Police Department.
