Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Roy Eric Goodman, 40, and Trevina Quiche Goodman, 38, of Detroit, in connection with the death of Harold Phillips, 35, also of Detroit. The defendants are a married couple.

On January 29, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of West Chicago and Longacre for a reported dog mauling. Upon their arrival, officers observed medics on the scene rendering medical assistance to Mr. Phillips. Medics then transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Phillips succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on February 2, 2024.

It is alleged that while the victim was walking in the area of West Chicago and Longacre, the defendants' three dogs escaped through an unsecured front gate of the defendants' home in the 9400 block of Longacre and attacked Mr. Phillips.

Roy Eric Goodman and Trevina Quiche Goodman have both been charged with one count of Dangerous Animal Causing Death.*

"This is heartbreaking. I just do not understand why we continue to see unleashed and unsecured dangerous dogs running loose and killing our citizenry. With pet ownership comes responsibility, pure and simple. I do not see what is hard to understand about that," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Defendant Roy Goodman was arraigned on February 28, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Dawn White and given a $25,000 cash bond with the conditions that he may not harbor any animals and he is not allowed to have any contact with the victim's family. A Bond Redetermination hearing is scheduled for March 1, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico.

Defendant Trevina Goodman was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath and was also given a $25,000 cash bond with the conditions that she may not harbor any animals and she is not allowed to have any contact with the victim's family. A Bond Redetermination hearing is scheduled for March 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico.

Their Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 6, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and their Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 13, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Ronald Giles.
