Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a Taha Shitawi, 34, (DOB: 04/07/1986), of Dearborn, in connection with the stabbing of five people, a 32-year-old man, two 31-year-old men, a 25-year-old man, all of Dearborn. A 29-year-old woman, of Shelby Township, was also a stabbing victim.

On March 21, 2021, approximately 3:30 a.m.it is alleged that the defendant had a verbal argument with several people inside the location. The defendant went outside of the lounge and continued arguing. It is alleged that during the verbal argument the defendant pulled out a knife and stabbed the eight victims before fleeing the scene. * 911 dispatched officers to the scene, and medics transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to Defendant Shitawi's arrest on March 22, 2021.

Defendant Shitawi has been charged with five counts each of the following crimes: Assault with Intent to Murder; Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm; and Felonious Assault.* * He was arraigned today in 36th District Court and received a $350,000/10% bond. His Probable Cause Conference is on April 5, 2021, and his Preliminary Examination in on April 12, 2021 before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones. "The allegations in this case illustrate disturbing violence. I am asking people to think before you react, violence is never the answer. Whether it is with a gun or a knife these crimes have life changing and devasting consequences for victims, their families, our entire community and the perpetrator,'' said Prosecutor Worthy.

*Some victims were not able to be interviewed at the time the warrant was presented. When they become available it may result in other charges.
